I have a FR 8" Diatone alnico driver in a 1cu ft enclosure which is ported. I like it, but bass is lacking. I was thinking of installing a 8" woofer to the rear of the cabinet and running it so I get a push-pull effect. I would have to attach it to the outside on the back, and face it towards the front speaker ( not enough depth to put it inside). Anyone ever try this? Diatone is 4 ohm...so how to connect...in series?
........or designed based on the mean (averaged) specs of the two which of course really needs to be done with measured unless the published ones are typically very accurate (+/- a few percent).
Suggest OP try using the other main driver push-pull as a gold standard, then replace with something different and compare. Another similarly built FR driver might work better than a modern woofer. In my case, two very different-sounding vintage alnico 7x10 push-pull gave me the best of both worlds (LorenzGraetz-Goodmans, wrote about it somewhere). But my first suggestion is to divide the 27L chamber into a folded tapered line -- by adding cardboard incrementally (comparing left & right speakers in ladder-climbing fashion) and fine-tune until further extension no longer lower the bass reach. This MLTL-after-the-fact trick works especially well for lower Qts drivers in small cabs.
