My knowledge of lenses goes as far as using a magnifyingglass to set fire to paper and stuff. What should I look for when trying to get hold of a nice lens for a projector?

I do not think that would be the best lens to use. If you wanted to do a setup like zark, you want a delta IV, or a rear projection lens, made for a flat panel crt, big enough to show a 5-5.6 in lcd.
I was under the impression that the Delta IV would only easily manage up to a 4 1/2 inch screen or maybe 5" without clipping corners... will a Delta IV handle a 5.7" screen? If so, I'm set. 🙂

sorry, it kinda looked that way how i typed it. I was trying to say that if he can find another projector lens than the delta IV that was flat, and could accept up to a 5.6" lcd, that would be even better than the delta IV which takes up to a 5".
Gotcha'. 🙂 I think I'm going to go with the 7" magnifying lens off of Surplus shed and their projection lens... what is it... the Fujinon? Is that the one made for flat-panels? That was always very vague on the forum, as to which surplus shed projection lenses were the best. I'll prolly dump around $50-$60 in lenses, $60 in an LCD, and then just have the LED's to replace the cold cathode in my backlight, then I'll be set. 🙂

P.S. Oooooh. I was worried about how to do the lensing/reflecting for the light source, but if we use the LCD backlight and just re-power those optics, that takes out a whole $30 magnifing lens I'll have to buy. Sweet!
