LED Lamp

My dad and I just ordered 30 high-intensity red LEDs off the internet (3000 mcd each; 3 cd each; 90 candels total) and we're going to get one of those nifty parabolic reflectors and see what kind of output we can get...

Is there a way to get from mcd's to lumens? Anyone care to figure that one out for me? 😀

Just wondering, considering how bright these LEDs are, and that we'll have 30 of them, do you think that will be bright enough for one color component of an LCD projector?

Also, I invite discussion on all other aspects of LED lampage, comparisons with incandescent lampage, etc.

LEDs have been considered a couple of times in this forum. Seems everyone thought it is not bright enough / cost effective enough to use in DIY projector at the end. So far nobody reported successful stories yet ( they might be successful but just didn't report). So, please report your result here after you put them together. Thanks!

You will be the first to try this. Many others theorised about using a lot of LEDs but no one actually tried it.
Probably because of the low lumen and the difficulties that come with multiple lightsources.
A parabolic reflector wont do you much good; the leds produce a cone of light, none will hit your reflector (unless you point them away from the LCD towards the reflector 😉 )
Good luck!
