hi all,
big noob here - been trying to gather as much info on building my own lcd projector as possible (ace3000_1 your design is awesome - do you have a tentative date as to when the plans/material list will be avilable? wouldnt mind seeing the end result too! 😉)
i came across this on slashdot.org here, and was wondering if something like this would work for an lcd projector? is the light 'too' focused possibly? the qutoed life sems to be pretty competitive
what do you guys think?

i think this would work no way, because the light output of these things is 280lumens, and all you'll get 5% of this on the wall...
you'll need at least 50 lumens on the wall to get a dim image...
yet the LED thing seems to work though...
in the german diy forum cande2 managed to get a led beamer going; not quite sure 'bout the brightness, cause he didn't have a good cam to take pictures; the pictures posted were taken by mobile phone cam, so it is not really possible to judge about the quality...
but take a look by yourself:

he started the LED discussion in the german forum all over again with his pictures...

hmm he had the same idea i had with putting the led's in agrid pattern (even those were the smaller type led's). i wonder if using multiples of these LED lamps would work, instead of using it as a replacement for the metal halide bulb? since eld's dont consume that much electricity, you might be able to build a very bright array for the ame cost in watts.
also, do you know if led's shine backwars at all? would a reflector covering the back as well as the sides help in making a parallel light path?
