I am looking at buying a used lcd that is reported as beeing dim...I am hoping that this may have something to do with the blacklight, in which case the lcd would be usable.
What are you guys thinking?
Thank you all

Fluorescent ballast. one for the top and one for the bottom. its going on 3 years and it still works😉
total price $0.00
just be careful of the high voltages
and yes the lcd would still be good

so are you saying that the fact that it's dim has to to with the backlight, and that it could be used in a diy projector?
yes it will work fine, the dimness comes from a faulty inverter or a bad CCFL lamp, neither of which is needed for a DIY projector
