Hi Experts!
I just got an EZPro 580 on eBay thinking it might have a minor problem. Maybe it's a big problem. Maybe you willknow.
As it warms up and the projected image begins to brighten, it starts to flash. Sometimes it gets almost up to full brightnets before the flashing starts. Sometimes it starts before you can even see a projected image. Sometimes it flashes a few times and then goes into standby mode.
I took out the lamp and looked at it, but don't really know what to look for.
I turned on the projector with the lamp out of the unit and here to fairly loud buzzy snaps (which I asume were caused by a high voltage spark gap somewhere). I turned off the power right away, and could smell ozone afterwards.
Putting the lamp back in, the same flashing symptoms returned.
Could this be a bad lamp or do you have any other ideas?
Thanks,
GW

a faulty connection somewhere with the power? or lcd's? sounds like something is not connecting right...or something is blown...good luck
I think the problem must be in the lamp power supply part of your projector.
Y suppose that nothing strange happens when is it in stand-by mode. Try to see with the lamp out (or with the lamp door opened), if you can see the image generated in the LCD when you turn it on. There is a signal that come from the LCD part that controls the lamp, try to dissable it if you don´t succeed.
I you can, then the problem is only in the Lamp PSU part. Open the case and try to find what is wrong, I can´t give you more help here ´case the one I have uses a different lamp and a differen PSU. But If it is wrong and you can´t repair it, as the lamp it uses is a MH 150W one, you can power it with an external ballast.
Good Luck!

No!!!
DO NOT try to start the projector without a lamp in, you will ruin the ignitor and/or the ballast!!!
The noises you heard were the ignitor trying to start a non-existant lamp. Bad idea!!

nexarius, I have tested what I said.
appart from that, this projector uses a common halogen lamp, so when it is burnt, the filament is opened. And a burn filament is the same that if there were no lamp in it.
So according to you when the lamp dies your power supply will die too.

You sure its a halogen mate?🙂 halogens dont warm up, Metal Halides do, and acording to this its got a MH lamp in it.

From the sounds of it its a simple case of a dead bulb where the electrodes have burnt out so far the bulb is no longer able to hold its arc, hence the flashing. Buy a new bulb and if the problem still persists either check the basic things like the wires on the sockets (turned off!!) or take the unit to a trained personel.
SAFTEY WARNING!!!!

Never operate a HID bulb out of a projector, they over heat!!!
Most ballast have a strike arc voltage of 3-5kv!!!, a potentional for a serious electric shock or even death!!!, and therfore should never be fooled with by the amature.

If in doubt of changing a bulb in your unit, or of other problems, it is advisable to see a profesional trained personel. The dangers that lurk in these machines are not worth the risk.

ace...you are always here!!!!
yes you are right, the 580 has a metal halide lamp, but the one I have (model 550) has an halogen one. Sorry for that.
According to another user here, the display unit is the same as mine, so the only difference is the power suply....the power supply for tha lamp, because the part that goes to the lcd part must be the same and surely has a connector thar should be similar (if not the same) to the one I have. I think there is a thread with my pictures taken from the power supply.
All power supplies must be able for security to operate without a lamp in it (if not what happens when a lamp burns out while you are using it?). Thats the reason why you must fool the unit in order to retrofit (is this the correct term?) the projector with different bulb (with its own power supply appart).
