Hi friends,
I am looking for a new (unused) KSS-123A replacement (for a DENON DCD-3300 that sill works but that I plan to keep alive for many years...): where can I buy this KSS-123A from, if possible from a reliable and not too expansive source ?
Thank you very much,
Nounours

Here is a reputable company.
CD / DVD Laser Pick Ups | CPC UK
Never heard of a kss123a though, could it be kss213a?

Thanks for your reply,
I have done a search on their website, but I am not sure that the results are the KSS123A.
The KSS123A is the right reference : it is written on the laser inside the CD player. It is not a rare mechanism : other CD players use it.
I have sent them an email, because the search results are unclear...
If you know another source...
Tks

In my experience, which goes back to dawn of cd, KSS123A's almost never go bad. And this is from a fairly large statistical sampling. I can only think of 1, maybe 2 bad ones in my whole career, and this includes the version integrated into the BU-1 series linear tracking mechs. All that ever goes wrong with them is a generally one-time-only age sag in output power. Tweak it back to proper 0.24mW optical output spec with a good LPM8000 meter, and it's good to go for next couple of decades.
You should be more worried about the platter motor upper shaft bearing, the major weak point in the 3300. If you don't do some preventive maintenance of disassembling the motor to clean out the bearing & lub with a really good machine oil, it WILL start squealing & killing itself way before the laser has any issues. And, of course, you need *exactly* the right grease-oil(halfway between) for the linear motor guide rails. Nye Rheolub is best.

Hi stephensank,
I have just sent you a private message : my English is not perfect so I need a bit more explanations to understand exactly what you mean to achieve this "preventive maintenance" !.
Thank you VERY much for your help and your patience,
Michel
