So I bought a pair of KRK Rokit 6 RPG 2's from a moving sale 2 years ago. ($100)
Stored them in the garage with all my other audio hoarder collection.
Last month I bought a JAMO 250 8 inch subwoofer. ($30)
I thought to pair them together and see if they complemented each other for a nice little compact 2.1 system.
I started playing some test tones and tracks and soon realized that the KRK Rokit's are in desperate need of a high pass filter. They are trying to play notes down to 20 Hz and the cone movement is out of control. Total carnage below Fb.
When you play anything with bass around 20-30 Hz the cones are just going nuts. For a 6.5 inch bass reflex i'm surprised more people don't blow them left and right. I'm going to try installing some caps around 50 Hz and see what the results are.
If you have some KRK Rokit's try it out. Play this track. Crank it and watch the cones just lose it.

john: If you use multichannel soundcard, it´s very easy to install something like EqualizerAPO(with Peace UI) and make your high-pass filters in matter of seconds.
It even works to make them supersteep with additional EQ.

I'm thinking of trying the Harrison Labs FMOD 50 Hz high pass.
then I don't have to open up the boxes. And I can easily revert to use them full range without the sub.
