I have a Krell preamp, the KRC-3, being recapped locally.
What brand should be used to recap it or just use the same brand that was in there?
Does anyone know what brand they are? Does it matter? The shop is saying nichicon.

Nichicon is a good brand, just make sure they don't buy them off Ebay.
If you intend to use the amp for years to come, this is well worthwhile,
even if it seems to be working normally at present.

First question is are you sure the caps need replacing? Caps aren't necessarily bad just because they are old, especially in a preamp where elevated temperatures aren't usually a problem. I just checked out an old Denon preamp from the 70's recently and all were still good. Film caps in particular rarely go bad. Brand is irrelevant as long as you stay with well known reputable manufacturers and sources. If they are actually bad, replace with same value, and voltage rating at least as high as originals, higher voltage isn't a problem electrically but will probably be physically larger, so be aware of that.

Thanks for the responses.

One curiosity is that the 'high end audio' caps some are recommending seem to have
a shorter load life like a 1000 hours while others like some from parts express are as
high as 7000 hours.

Be sure to compare parts with similar ripple current, temperature rating, voltage, esr, etc.
These can be traded off to make the lifetime longer or shorter.
