I have a kole audio PH1-5500D. This is the second one I've had both of them only lasting two weeks I had it running two alpine type R 15in wired at 1 ohm. Does anyone have any experience with these amps are they just junk or are they really not capable of running at 1 ohm
These amps have a VERY serious problem with breaking the legs of the heatsink mounted transistors. Sometimes the breaks are not easy to see and require that you push on each leg to find them.
To make these amps reliable, you must add supports for the board. I use ABS stock under the board. A piece just over 1/4" is a good height. The capacitors are used on the top of the board as the top support. The foam allows the cover to apply pressure to the capacitors. The insulator is to prevent the cap case from shorting if the metal can cuts through the shrink-wrap on the capacitor. You could use a second ABS support on top in place of the capacitors.
ABS isn't necessary. Any rigid, non-conductive material will work. The purpose of this is to sandwich the board between the cover and the sink so it cannot flex and break the legs of the transistors.

Does anyone have one of these amps they want to junk as a parts board, neighbor just gave me one, for my electronics class, and part of the board is toasted. I need a lot of parts to fix, main cause looks like someone forgot to put back one of the heat-sink clips, ......idiots....
