Hello.
I have been asked by a friend of a friend to see about cobbling together a microphone preamplifier. I've done some searching in the forums and found a few designs like this one and that one, but I'd like some tips on what to look for in a design and some design recommendations as well.
Any thoughts?

This looks incredible... but most likely out of price range. I'm really only looking for a one-channel deal here and something less complicated.
Thanks for the input, though. Keep 'em coming!

I've heard it said a few times that mic preamps are very dependent on the input and output transformers (naturally the mic pre is balanced, I'm assuming XLR input & output). I've heard good things about the octal plug-in transformers by altec that can be found online in various places, although I'm sure that Lundahl and other high-end magnetics suppliers have some excellent offerings. One Electron has a bunch of schematics on their website: http://www.one-electron.com/FC_ProAudio.html
