Kicker ZX2500.1 Inductor Question

Guys,

I have a Kicker :smash:ZX 2500.1 Amp come into the shop, Power supply FETS toast, IRF9640/640 shorted on one side of the amp.

Replaced all components and the amp draws excessive current, then goes into shut down.

I determined that one of the output torridal inductor were bad. I substituted one from a similar amp, and the amp is functional.

The outputs in the circuit run warm with the replacement torrid, so I need either wind a new inductor or find one of you in the group here willing to look for 2 in your scrap amps.

I have wound inductors before and I have CM400060 cores here, and I wound a new inductor. The amp runs fine, so far, with the rewound inductor BUT the coils tempature is considerable LOWER that the other 3. I thinks it's due to the permability of the replacement core is different (60).

Anybody have 2 of these coils OR have some experiance with rewind these types of coils?

It certainly is missing windings on it, compared to the other three transformers. A member here (djQuan) build his own amp and had to use a power supply from a scrap board, he added a few more winds of his own....you may ask him for info/advice.

djQuan,

Thank you for the post reference, looks like you put alot of time and effort into perfecting that repair.

One of the issues I have is, I used a MPP core for the replacement, I ended up using less copper for the wind, to get the same inductance, I have slight heating of the 9640/640's compared to the other 3 amps in the circuit.

I ran that amp for about 15 min into 2 ohms, 3 of the 4 cores heated to 165 degree F, the new MPP core was at 116 degrees F. I realize that is the physics of using thaat core BUT, will this effect the others?

2 sections of this amp are bridged, and then paralleled. What is the effect ?

Is it possible to find the same core as I removed?
