Looking for help ... The remote for my Khozmo passive pre (controls volume only) seems to drain the batteries really quickly. My guess is that there's a small current draw somewhere, but I'm not sure what to check. Any of you tech people have any ideas? I have a meter, but I'm not really sure what to check.
Thanks!
Thanks!
Is there an electrolytic capacitor buffering the supply? The remote easily looks clunky enough for that to be the case. Then that could be leaky and in need of replacement.
Otherwise the remote may be permanently active for some reason.

You can check that by looking at the remote through a digital photo camera (or your smartphone camera). You can see the IR LED light up this way.
...and even if that's not the case, you should be able to listen to what the microprocessor is doing using a portable AM radio.
I'm not sure about the cap. There's a small PCB in the remote, and that's it. I'll open it up, take a picture and post it tonight so maybe someone can point it out. I'll try the phone camera trick too. As for the last suggestion, who the heck has a portable AM radio these days? Hah!
Well, I did the iPhone camera trick, and the LEDs do not light up until I press one of the volume buttons. So I don't think there's a constant drain from that. I am attaching a pic of the innards so you can see what this is made of. Any suggestions of what to check next would be appreciated!
