I have a Kenwood KAC7203 that is wired properly with a designated chassis ground and 100 Amp inline fuse, and even with the speaker outputs detached, blows the 40 Amp protective fuse upon power-on. Any help would be appreciated, I'm assuming it's a transistor shorted, and i've never done any amplifier repair. Feel free to make suggestions.
If it's under warranty, send it to a warranty repair station.
If it's not under warranty and you want to try to repair it yourself, you'll need to remove the cover and check for defective transistors. It's likely that the output transistors are shorted. Measure the resistance between the 2nd and 3rd legs of each of the output transistors. The output transistors are likely going to be the largest transistors in the amp and will be clamped to the heatsink. They will likely be adjacent to large white ceramic resistors. If you read anything near 0 ohms, you need to remove the transistors and check them out of the board.
If you can post a wide shot of the amp, that would help me since I've never had to work on one of them.
