JVC Boombox conversion: crossover

Hi all.

I have an old JVC boombox, that doesn't work anymore (the drivers are fine).
I'm thinking about gutting the electronics, and replacing them with a Tripath amp and a small 12v battery (because i already have these, and because of the excellent low power consumption).

This is the Boomblaster:

My question is about the crossover that i need to build, for the speakers to work properly with the Tripath amp.

Bass speakers: JVC QAS0007-001, 4ohm, NORM.20W, IDN, 221H
Tweeter/midrange speakers: JVC QAS0006-001, 4ohm, MAX.10W, IDN, 221E
JVC Boomblaster model: RV-B99BK

The tweeter/midrange can also play some bass actually, if that matters in the determination of the crossover frequency.

I'm thinking i will just use this calculator to find the appropriate capacitor and inductor, for a 1st order design.

What crossover frequency would you guys recommend (the box doesn't have to play perfect)?
And do you have some good advice about where to buy the components (as cheap as possible)?

I don't have much knowledge in this area, so if i missed something please let me know 🙂

Hi,

I reckon around 300Hz series 1st order, but that
is just a guess. The original was probably active.
