Sometimes when I'm lifting my records on and off my MMF5, I get noise from speakers. I can wave the record back and forth from it and the noise raises and lowers.
Static electricity is bad at my place, but this one is a little puzzling since the tonearm isn't near it. It plays fine, but this sound is weird. I could record it and email to anyone whom cares to hear the crazy sound.
I've tried improving the grounding, but haven't found any changes. The bearing and spindle are grounded, where not prior, but has no change on sound.
Any thoughts would be appreciated. I just shampooed the carpet but that didn't do anything that I can tell.

What kind of noise?
Static electricity is DC until it arcs.

The record and your arm might be acting as a interference antenna.

Very fast popping staticky noise, that occurs as the record moves toward or away. The faster I move it the faster the popping.
I have the same problem in the winter with some cartridge and arm combinations. Sounds like crackling and popping as I lift the record off the platter. A different mat on the platter could help, i.e. one closer in the tribo-electric series to record vinyl. The act of removing the record from the platter is what generates the difference in charge that causes these discharges to occur. I would not worry about it. Try a small humidifier if really bothersome.
Might be worth trying a cork mat although some claim cork dulls the sound it does seem to help in reducing static build up .
If I touch my mat I get pops. I get them if I move it on and off the table too.
I can't wait to get a different table at some point... I have never met anyone else that gets so much wacky **** going on.
