just finished BIB TL's

I'm using the Pioneer 8" full range drivers from PA. These enclosures are huge! 69" tall, 10" wide, 20" deep (inside dims) I just want to check if I did everything right though, the inside baffle is 60" long which makes it 10" away from the bottom, rear and front of the enclosure. The Sm for this enclosure was 200" sq., does it matter what the dimensions are? I chose 10"x 20" for simplicity sake.

They sound pretty good, I was hoping for a little more bass out of them but oh well. Another thing, I was looking at voight pipes and wondered what would happen if I put a tube near the bottom of the enclosure? I'm new to TL's so bear with me.

Aha. Another BIB horn (yup, they're horns) builder. You're internal baffle is spot of for the dims you've used BTW, so don't worry about that.

Re the WxD, it'll make some difference due to changing the expansion away from the optimal conical flare which is a ratio of ~1:1.414. How much of a difference though is open to question, and probably depends on your room as much as anything else. Terry Cain himself used a 1:2.1 ratio with his original enclosures.

I'm surprised you're finding them bass-light -where are they positioned? At a guess, you might need to juggle around with it a little more -they need at least a rear wall, and preferably a corner to get the load optimised. Did you add any damping material?

Voigt (P.G.A.H. Voigt -no 'h') Pipes -a tube near the bottom? Haven't seen that one before -what sort of tube? Have you got a link? It could be one of several things, a port or Helmholtz resonator immedately spring to mind.

Don't worry, if we can help, we will. We all had to start at some point too.

Best regards
Scott

actually as soon as I posted that, I moved my enclosures around and much better bass now 😀 I did add some polyfill above the driver in the sealed part, where the baffle starts, where else could I add some??

I had no idea about the ratios! I just threw some numbers together, crossed my fingers and built something. Nevermind about the the tube thingy, completely different enclosure.

You could try a 1in thick layer on the bottom. That's all most of these things (with drivers of 6 1/2in or large) need. Glad you've got some more LF from them too! You might want to bring a small tweeter in at some point, just to finish things off nicely as that stalward Pioneer needs a little help up top. Jeff's tried this (in a different enclosure) and it should bring a little extra magic to the proceedings: http://www.zillaspeak.com/pioneerb20-piezo.asp
