I was screwing around with my dead samsung syncmaster 151v, and i figured i'd tear apart an old laptop screen. low and behold the plugs are the same!! ALL lcd's run on a digital signal through a 20 pin connector.
After doing some research on the net, it turns out that lcd monitors for a pc have a controller board that changes the signal from analog to digital. Therefore the controller will run other lcd screens (may require fine tuning though). But in my case i was trying to run a NEC 14" lcd from an old versa laptop. With the vid card set to 640x480 i could make out a picture.
I am assuming that if i had another samsung lcd from another monitor or another laptop it would run it just fine.
I think this is a great breakthrough as laptop lcd's can be had on Ebay for cheap!
The controller board is
Model Number: GG15L/H/E/M
Code Number: BN41-00149A
Rev No. : MP1.2 (2002.05.16)
Also says:
9800000194
GG15VS
20021015
ver 1.2E
I hope this will help some or all of us reach our DIY goals with less expense!
If any of you have ever tried this let me know if you got any results?
Thanks, Gordon
