I find that the Waveterminal 192L PC sound card uses JRC4580 dual opamps. Has anyone compared the sound of these chips against the newer opamps ?
I was considering changing these smd chips with something better like the OPA2134 or AD826. Any idea if this would make an audible difference ?
The headphone output of the 192L card REALLY sucks . My Sennheiser HD580 sounds dead with this card. HF is really lacking and everything sounds like it has been smoothed out with a sand paper. On the other hand the headphone sounds dynamic and great with the on board sound of my Intel motherboard.
HF is crystal clear.
Does anyone have any idea what could be wrong or is it the JRC4580 or - good heavens - is it the AD/DA circuit ?
I have not yet tested the line out to a power amp.
Does anyone have a similar experience with this card ? Has anyone changed the opamps ? If so , were all of them changed ?
What was the end result ?
Does anyone know where I can find more technical details of the innards of the card - signal flow diagram etc.

Hi!
As I posted in a thread before, I made verry good experiences with the ths4222. these are very fast opamps, rather noisy, are happy with +-5V found on a soundcard, and are able to deliver 100mA.... they are able to maintain their low output impedance up to many MHz, so if they are proper decouplied, they work perfectly linear.....
in the subjectivist way, my impressions are that they really do not add something... with ad8620 sound was nice, with opa 2134 similar but now I think that was not the "true" sound, it´s like qualizing the sound to something you like...
please try it and share your impressions...
