I am interested in JLH class A and I study different version and I notice that in the early version the input transistor was bias with a voltage divider at the base of the input transistor, at the time the amplifier was single supply and the speaker capcitor coupled. On later version with dual supply an direct coupled speaker the operation point is more critical ( to have zero DC offset on speaker ) an now they use a current source at the emiter of input transistor to set the operation point. Does that modification change the " sound " of the amp or is it truely equivalent?

There are pretty clear descriptions of sound differences in the various versions.
