I obtained a box of tubes, most of which are from TVs, I think.
A couple of them though have the same identification as the 5U4G rectifier
tube used in the Scott 222.
they are: Jan-CKR-5U4G 'Ken-Rad VT-244'
They are twice as big or tall though as the one in the scott
Can they be used as a substitute?

According to Duncan's TDSL data the VT-244 is close or identical to a 5U4, so yes......
A 5U4-G is a 5U4...
