Andrew, I just purchased some 2sk170 from a Chineese component disthibutor, how can you determine if they are fake.
Start by measuring Idss.
Then measure and plot Id vs Vgs.
But don't complain if your measurements don't exactly match Toshiba's.
They state Tc=25degC and duty cycle such that Tj is also pretty close to 25degC.
And they hold Vds=10V

I don't think so.
I believe j74 has already gone obsolete.
I further believe that k170 is about to go obsolete.
Toshiba put out notice that k170 production was due to stop soon, many months ago.
I would not be surprised that having received a few million pre-production orders of intent that that production run has now been completed and that there will be no more k170.
