I found this amp (Apex Junior) at http://www.apexjr.com/ApexJunior.htm and want to know if its any good. I don't really care to build my own amp, but I am building a sub box for my home theater and need an amp to drive an 8" sub. I would like it to be able to drive more down the road if the 8" doesn't cut it, but cost is an issue.
BTW, the sub is an 8" 4ohm Kicker comp (car sub) that handles appx 100 watts RMS.
Thanks!!
Mike

It is a fine amp. I used one to drive a 12" Adire Shiva for about a year. Does exactly what they say it does, but heatsinks can get toasty. If you spend a little more you can get a 250w unit from PartsExpress for $120 with free shipping. Can't remember if that one has bass boost or not. Good luck,

overkill?
I would think the 250W amp would be a little overkill for my current sub, even though it would give me lots of room for a future sub.
How much would it (or would it at all) hurt to run my 8" from the 250 watt from PE? I believe it is rated for 100 Watts only.
BTW, if we're looking in the same place, the 250watt is $139, the 120watt is $100, unless you look at quantity discounts.

whoops
sorry - I posted prices for the 250watt at PE above - there is one for $119 with free shipping that looks good!
the above question still stands: would it hurt my 8" sub to run with the bigger amp?

Mike,
As with any amp/speaker combination, where the amp can destroy the driver....... Turn the gian down and don't allow so much power to go through the driver. I have 300W amps for my 5.1 surround and my boxes can only handle 150, maybe 175W each. No, I just don't turn it up so loud to destroy my drivers. The lower the gain, the less distortion you will have ie. headroom. Now YES, a 1000W amp on a single 8 in. driver would be stupid. 250W amp on a 100W driver is healthy headroom.
Enjoy..............
