Hi, Why do most HEXFET amplifiers use IRFP240/9240 ?

I can get the IRFP250's for £1-50 and the IRFP9240's for £2-50 and that is one off prices !
My reciept from the local surplus shop shows I paid $1.99 each..

i am not able to find them in mumbai, were the ones you got of good quality?
what project did you use them in?
any idea where one can find them in either mumbai or delhi?

i purchased them for CHAN Nmos 200 watts amplifier. thought i have not started making the amp, i got them easily in local mkt. i am pretty sure you will get them in mumbai, just search a little.

KHANDELWAL ELECTRONICS has every type of mosfet hexfet
st brand and irf 460 irf 240 irf9240 irf 9610 and very cheap
IRF 240 IRF9240 90rupees a pair
for 500 watt legend amplifier instead of irf240 used irf250 30 rupees
each.

The P-type device is not available here in Calicut...however the IRFP240 & IRFP250 costs 50/- rs per piece.

I ended up buying a matched set from tech-diy.com but i did check lamington road and they were available at a few shops. I didn't check Visha. The prices given to me at the time (more than a year ago) was Rs. 250/pair (240/9240)

'Q-fet" planer stripe DMOS are cheap too.🙂 These two have similar Gm and similar Vgs/Id slopes, and this makes them more 'complementary', if the term could be used for vertical type power mosfets. IRF540/9540 are not very 'complementary', one has 3-4 times the transconductance of the other, notice the transfer characteristics are very dis-similar, introducing asymmetrical distortion figures. IRF530/9540 would be a much better choice. IRFP250/9240 are far from 'complementary' as well, but IRFP240/9240 are much closer. The goal is to get the slope of the overall Gm/Id figure to be constant, providing lower distortion. This starts with choosing the right components.😎
I used IRF640/9540. I bought them for €0,75 ->$1US.

IRF540N or irf9540N ~Rp5000 each for 100pcs, without N mark priced less than with N mark. IRF540N/9540N are not suitable for higher than +-38V supply. $1 ~ Rp9000.
