Hello All. 30-year musician here, with a colored history related to amplification and electronic devices. I love to tinker with small engines and actually took an electronics course in community college long ago. I have enough solder burns to provide I've tried fix stuff.. sometimes I do it right. And learn more in the process than all the labs in a college setting.
I've owned 3 Fender Passport PA's in my life, and the only complaint was not quite enough power for the venue I played. But I always liked the portability and swoopy design. Unfortunately we plugged the 500 Pro into an extension chords at a backyard party, there was a loud pop and that was the end of that. As others of said, professional repair isn't cost effective in my area. A friendly mentor looked at it and said that he could go no further without a schematic. Others on this forum as well as a local (former Fender) tech says Fender wont even let the techs have the schematic. But I saw a thread here of someone who has one.
1) Are the schematics for all the models reasonably similar or do I need the 500 Pro schematic?
2) Anyone figured out a consistent approach to fixing the problem without successfully diagnosing it? (e.g. blinding replacing a bunch of transistors..?)
3) I have PD 250.. if some version of testing a working model against a non working model would help figure it out?
Thanks for the help,
EJ
