i'd appreciate any information on audiomobile sa1600, even if it's 'if i remember correctly.....' styled information. i know it's signal-sensing for turn-on, has a crossover, i believe it's 1ohm-stable. it has pico-fuse output protection, 40w/channel, 4ohms (i think).
here's what i don't know: there's a switch on one side next to the level adjusting screw. i forget if it disables the crossover or bridges the low side. i have the line input pigtail but if anybody had a pin-configuration diagram, that would be great (yeah, not likely, i know!).

that SWITCH is a SENSITIVITY switch and it has 4 positions I think. Low to High sensitivity to adjust for DECK outputs that back then did not have pre amp outputs. You could set that switch to a lower sensitivity setting and run your typical 5 watt per channel deck speaker leads into the inputs. One more thing. That LEVEL ADJUSTING SCREW is NOT a level adjustment for GAIN.... its a BIAS ADJUSTMENT for the transistors in there. CAREFUL turning it any as it will change the factory set BIAS and will SMOKE a PICO FUSE if ya turn it too far.... Dont ask me how I know that. As TURN ON goes theres a BLUE WIRE center pin of the DIN thats the remote wire on the SA 1000 etc but I THINK the 1600 had a signal sensing INPUT section that would sense the radio signal coming in and it would turn itself on. Theres a blue remote wire on them too just not sure where as its a 8 pin DIN on the 1600 and its been a while since I opened mine up for inspection. I have a DIN diagram for the SA 1000 but never drew one up for the 1600/1200/450 amps. I own a 1200 which is the 4 channel model, the 1600 was ALSO a 4 channel AMP BUT it could accommodate a FADER on the HIGH SIDE amps that would go to the MID/HIGHS SATELLITES front and rear. The 1200 did not have the fader setup and was a 4 channel BI AMP setup as was the 1600. I am unsure if you can "full Range" these amps as I believe they are dedicated MIDS HIGHS on the front channels and the output is less, power wise as the SUB REAR channels do all the BOOM.... the bass. So yes these are Bi Amp models with DIN inputs utilizing a switch to set GAIN input levels, I understand they CAN run safely at 1 ohm for a short time but better to stay at 2 ohms or higher or risk short lifespan. MINE today has a blown TWEETER channel and I need to fix IT as well as the 450 that also has a missing channel issue SO..... These amps can and do die. Temperamental I recall, many had issues right out of the BOX as by the TIME these amps were being constructed AUDIOMOBILE as a company closed its doors and was sold lock stock and barrel to ADVENT corp. They initiated these NEW Audiomobile series of amps while selling off the OLD STOCK left from the REAL Audiomoibile. ADVENT suffered from the market crash of 1984 I understand and thus had to let go of some operations so ADVENTMOBILE was sold lock stock and barrel to a company known for making Radar Detectors, the K40 corporation. K40 took over all operations and you will LIKELY see the K40 BRAND stamped in GOLD there on the circuit board of your 1600 as the LARGE majority of THAT series of amps were constructed by K40 via ADVENT. It appears ADVENT contracted K40 to perform the BUILD and actually construct these amps SO.... VERY RARE is the ADVENT marked boards and even RARER is the AUDIOMOBILE Brand marking as these WERE Starry/Coe designs that went with the sale to ADVENT.... K40 did what they could do with an amplifier company for a short while but soon the name brand FOLDED once these series of amps were liquidated. That was the end around 1988 for AUDIOMOBILE as an amp company. K40 killed them dead. SAD story as my AUDIOMOBILE gear needs help and no real techs here in Hawaii to help me with them.... I am forced to LEARN.... and I will. Hope this helps.... That POT is NOT a GAIN POT its a transistor BIAS adjustment and theres one on either end I think. Yellow in color I believe. OK... On the SP 300 preamp EQ, the PIN LAYOUT is facing the right side INPUT DIN plug in the EQ, thers an IN and an OUT... You are basically LOOKING at the DIN input in the EQ. It's the 5 pin DIN plug, Pin ONE is bottom LEFT and thats the RIGHT CHANNEL NEGATIVE INPUT. Next pin up is RIGHT CHANNEL PLUS INPUT Next pin number 3 is top center and it is LEFT CHANNEL PLUS, next pin number 4 is LEFT NEGATIVE INPUT and PIN 5 for some strange reason is wire jumped to RIGHT NEGATIVE INPUT. Thats is the 5 pin DIN input layout for the INPUT of the SP 300 EQ/Preamp.
The SP 300 OUTPUT is a 6 pin DIN plug on the LEFT as you are looking at the rear of the SP 300 EQ. It is clearly marked on the label underneath but sometimes labels disappear. SO.... 6 pin DIN, Pin ONE is again BOTTOM LEFT and thats RIGHT NEGATIVE OUTPUT, next pin TWO is RIGHT PLUS OUTPUT. Pin 3 TOP CENTER is not used Pin FOUR is LEFT PLUS OUTPUT and pin FIVE is LEFT NEGATIVE OUTPUT. The CENTER PIN is a CONTROL WIRE aka REMOTE BLUE WIRE thats actually hooked up to the VOLUME POT. You turn the system ON using the VOLUME CONTROL KNOB of the SP 300 EQ, it sends 12 volts turn on via the CENTER PIN number 6. This can be used to figure out the INPUT DIN on the SA 1000/2000 amps and CX crossover etc. Once ya know the In and Out it becomes clear what goes where elsewhere in the system.
I also have the SPEAKER color code which is Right + is ORANGE with a 3 amp fuse, Violet is Right - Left + is GREEN with 3 amp fuse and Left - is WHITE Thats the speaker wiring for the SA 1000 Audiomobile amp and likely the SA 2000 as well. Hope this helps to clarify the AUDIOMOBILE amp DIN situation. NJOY/BDBD/2022
