Don't hold your breath....

I'm not surprised no-one's answered your enquiry yet.

If you've not discovered already, what one guy thinks is great, another guy thinks is utter crap.
If you got it cheap (under £100 GBP), and you're not expecting THX cinema...then chances are you made a good purchase.

IMO, it is a reasonable mid-range performer of the 1990's LCD panels. Not the best, but not the worst either. If you have a good light source and a half-decent surface to project on to, you should'nt be disappointed.

You never know your luck, someone who's had one may be prepared to respond, given time!

Best of luck with the panel.

It is not half bad
I have the smartview 3600 on a Apollo aI-1000 with a retrofitted 400 watt MH bulb. As noted in the previous reply it is not THX quality but with the right screen (I am using a Dalite that I picked up at a yard sale) the picture is quite acceptable. It spends alot of time showing my kids DVD's Toy Story and such and it works great. I have watched quite a few scifi movies on it and am quite happy considering this is my first DIY and the low amount of money involved in the project. Give it a try and let me know what you think. As was almost said in the previous post "beauty is in the eyes of the beholder" DIY On!!!!

I think it is great (it is my 1st projector though)

At first it wasn't so good as the bolt that goes through the casing and into the arm had gone back into the casing a little so the bolt ended inside the arm - I rememner I spent hours trying to get a nut on inside that tiny hole in the bottom of the arm!

In the end I realised what had gone wrong so I took of the stage and pushed the end of the bolt against the casing.

There is quite a lot of 'screen-door' effect, but I can't move the OHP forward as it's on a table at the back of the room and my chair is in front of it! At the moment I am just projecting onto a light yellow wall. But soon I will be getting a screen.

My image is about 240cm x 180cm (96" x 72") I would prefer it to be smaller but as I said the OHP has to stay where it is.

Sounds all okay!

Keep in mind though; you will still be blown away by a nice vga projection panel with 1.2 million colors. In fact, if you are just getting into diy projection, many of us recommend buying a projection panel and overhead projector first. This way you will get a good handle on how everything works, what your limits are, and what can be improved if you later build a custom setup. There are only a few better feelings than powering on your setup for the first time and having a clear, crisp, and bright, 8 foot screen that looks damn good.

I love that quote by VM, and have used it one other threads as it sums up the essence of why we are all here on this forum - and the quest to improve on past efforts.

Glad to hear about your progress so far. To just mention some well worn advice about the two problems you're experiencing:

Image size -bigger than you need becuase of OHP position.....some people have used secondary lenses to combat this and reverse-magnify the projected image. You might want to look at 3M's flip-in magnifier that they sell for their high-end OHP's.
The Screen Door Effect - 2 strategies, first, (heat allowing) remove the stage glass on the OHP and try and get the panel to sit nearer the fresnel lens - it has been reported that this helps combat the effect. Second, put the image very slightly out of focus!
Another alternative is to buy a higher-res panel!

Cheers

I wondered how you can access all the different menus of the panel, as the remote that it came with it, is the one for a InFocus Powerview panel (the one with the huge button in the middle) but the remote does do somethings, if you press brightness up - the picture freezes, volume down - it switches from computer to TV.

There is a lightshow button at the top of the remote, it does do something - it calls up a menu saying
" Clear Black, Clear White, R, 1.6, 11/8/94, 12:40, FT min, T 34, BT 19 016 016 016, HP 0000, VP 03FF, Horz 0000, Vert 0000, Select Data No Video, Horz 00 00, Vert 00 00, Mode.

Whats that about?
