InFocus LP570

Hi Guys,
I recently grabbed a faulty Infocus LP570 projector (http://www.projectorcentral.com/InFocus-LP570.htm) off Ebay for next to nothing . I managed to get it all fixed up and working fine . It uses 36V 400w Halogen lamps. I reckon that it should be pretty easy to use a G12 fitting Metal Halide lamp with minimal alteration to the setup . The original lamp is sandwiched between a reflector and a condensor lens and then there is a "pinkish" filter (?) after the condensor lens . Would this just be an infra red filter and would I need to add a UV filter before or after it . The one thing I can`t figure out is what Power of Halide to use . So ... is it possible to , say , buy a 150W , 250W or 400w electronic supply for the bulb and then use it with a lower power bulb or alternatively do the power supplies have a means of dimming ? If not what do you think would be the optimal bulb to use ..... or ... would I be better off using a double ended bulb . Bear in mind that I might also swap out the lcd for a Joytech 8" Ps2 screen .The original screen appears to have no coatings at all on it as opposed to the newer LCD screens which all have the filters etc installed (would this influence a decision on a new bulb ?).
I only say a G12 fitting bulb simply because it looks like a pretty simple mod to the original housing to install it and then hopefully the reflector and condensor lens would stay in their original places .
I have tried searching but it soon becomes information overload 🙂
Thanks for any help advice you can give me,
Gary
