Any curved high gain screen would do.
I've tried a piece of paper sprayed with silver paint. Muchbrighter and darker blacks. The problem is that most diy projectors are 'short throw'; the pj must be close to the screen to limit the image size. The angles the light follow to/from the screen are much larger than with long throw pj's; resulting in a very narrow viewing cone. This can be solved with curved screens, focussing the reflected light towards your viewing position. But how to diy a curved screen????

Longbow type?

I haven't tried this yet, but this is my initial reaction to how I would build a DIY curved screen. There are other ways that I'm sure are better, but this seems very quick and useable. I would just make sure that I had enough of a border on the screen so that I didn't notice the cables (I would use thin black nylon string) when the lights were off and the movie going.

I had the same problem...

When I first wanted to make a DIY curved screen... I was trying to come up with the best ways to curve wood (like in a half-pike or skatepark)... but thats too much of a pain in the ***... there had to be an easier way... and there IS!

I realized... why not just take plywood and cut the curve out of a template. Something like a side view of a curved spherical mirror. So your not actually curving wood... just cutting a curved frame.

Cut 3 pieces, attach sides with straight wood (any kind) And now you have a curved screen frame. Take your blackout or plastic (screen material) and stretch it around the frame using a staple gun to attach it to the back (inner side portions) of the frame. TAKE YOUR TIME!! I hear about people screwing up straight screens... this is much harder because you have to pull the material tight enough to form to the curved frame and remain flat, smooth and straight.
