impedance bridging problems

I built three "net" class a amps to drive headphones from line level sources. All were disappointing. I realised that common emitter input was always going to give problems in impedance bridging.
Heres my solution, emitter follower input.

I chose a high current capable device to drive the second stage. The amp sounds good to my old ears on all line level sources to my Grado's.
I don't have much test equipment, so i wondered if the 2n3055 collector load together with the emitter resistor was introducing an element of voltage gain (2?) what do you guys think?
