hey there, my fist post.

basically im here cos im sick of commercial speakers. ive had jamo, Monitor Audio and Missions and none of them have really given me what i want. (some tinny with no mids, others all mid and no bass)

im a DJ and so i play loud bassy dance music. i want some monitor speakers that produce a really nice hifi image. i was thinking tower was the way to go...more bass, but really its not practical, ill be standing over my mixing desk see and i need something nearinsh ear hight so i can one ear monitor (one ear in headphones other listening to the speakers)

im not looking for a PA system, this system wont leave my room.

so anyway...thats the background, ive been looking round trying to find bookshelf projects (ill be adding a sub later to the system dont worry about that  ) that would suit me (bookshelf so i can get them nice and high off the ground) and i didnt really find anything that looks to suit.

basically i want some efficant speakers with a non piercing high, nice mids and lowish bass for a bookshelf, that i can turn loudish from time to time

i scoped the SEAS P17REX and it seems to look ok for price (i dont really want to be spending over $400 AUD on this seeing as its my first project and it could go horribly wrong) how would it go with a VIFA d19 tweeter?

i also can get my hands on pretty cheap the VIFA P17WJ would that be a better mid bass?

im a rather handy woodworker and know basic electronics so i dont think there will be a problem building boxes....getting the design that will make some drivers sound good with a nice xo..thats another story, i dont know much.

oh i also really like the look of this, so if i could get something that looks like that, id be more that happy (i know its 400 and what i want, but whats the fun in building a kit? also couldnt i make something better for the same price if i do it my self?) i notice it has a front firing port...all the bookshelf speakers ive owned have it on the back...does it make much difference to sound? like the look better i know that much 🙂

anyway sorry for the long and prolly pointless post, basically i dont know much...so im here, asking all of you...cheers

RCF/Mackie have some nice studio monitors, with excellent deep bass, clear mids, and sparkling highs all from an 8 inch driver plus titanium horn loaded dome.
The only downside is the high price £800 pair

For Cheaper, another good speaker is the EVENT 20/20 passive monitors with 8 inch bass rated 100w rms,50w rms titanium dome tweeter.cost £350 in most dj stores
sold in this store www.sapphires.co.uk [edgware road,London]

Or make your own,I made my own speakers, high quality clear and clean hifi dome tweeters[80w rms] and midrange[70w rms] [Audax] combined with an 8 inch Eminence Beta 8 pa bass driver[150w rms] in a front ported cabinet made of plywood. And a 3 way crossover.

Most hifi speakers under £1000 lack any deep bass,or punchy bass, thats why budget hifi speakers are crap, unless your only playing classical or jazz.

With the speakers i built, I added 2 passive Eminence Delta 15[15 inch in ported box][400w rms] in separate enclosures for sub bass.
I tend to find hifi active subwoofers just boom boom boom, like the car audio subwoofer crap.Proper good bass has to thump you in the chest, make low rumbling sounds, and give the warmth and resonance of a,eg; bass guitar string[properly reproduce the freq note, not just boom it out].
