Went to add posters' suggested programs to the list in first post of this thread , the save was blocked with the notice attached.

While the visible text is only 4,834 characters, there are a lot of underlaying URLs, some of them bigger than their text. Yo may be at 10,000 characters.
I would not say 660 words is really "too long". For a story, or for a reference list post.

I suspect it's the URLs, as PRR says. I know that Jason is going to increase that limit, but don't know when it will happen.
PRR,
That makes sense, I hadn't thought about the URLs. I forget that everything visible is run by x times that under the surface.
Now I have to ask you though, Did you actually count all those characters? or do you have a program that tells you all this?
I agree about the limit on a reference list . I would guess that it's not possible to write a forum code that would know the difference between a useful list and a string of hot air blasts.
While we're here, do you know what that star in white dot at left (over the ˇ button) indicates? I have looked around for a legend but didn't find one.

Wore my finger to the bone.Did you actually count all those characters?
No; any writer has to have a word-counter. I think even MS Word can do that. Programmer editors are good at counting LoC (lines).
And I figured how to count the URLs too. ("Reply" will put the whole pile in the reply box, even if there is no hope of posting.)
Yes, you are already over the claimed 10,000 character limit (10,634). I assume you grew that "before", but now the new software thinks it is a problem.

Like this?
You are a Paid Member. Another member thought he paid, but it fell in a crack in the computer. He didn't get his benefits, and we did not see his star, which gave a clue where to poke the machine.

First I've heard of that. I don't recall having received anything . Why would they put me on the payroll for one post full of links? Are you sure? You are a Paid Member.
We could split the post for you, increasing it to 20k characters until the change comes through, then you can ask us to combine them. You'll have to notify us when you want to update the second post, that's all because you always only have unlimited edits on the first one.
Oh maaaaan, I was remembering those other guys bragging "Membership has its privileges." and thinking "How do you like them apples , suckas, you ain't the only ones."LOL, no you don't get paid, you have to pay. 😛
Ah well, won't quit my day job . Back to work . . . . . .

That's your decision. I don't really consider it "my thread" but am happy to check it and add the newly posted links to the top list. There are not many recent additions and I have no idea how often the list is looked at or whether anyone still finds it useful. We could split the post for you, increasing it to 20k characters until the change comes through, then you can ask us to combine them. Wow ! It's famous !
What do you think Mr. P. ? Is it possible to split the first post in some strategically good spot and make both editable?
(Right now somewhere either side of the "L" s looks kind of mid-wayish.)

Hmmmm.... Not sure on this new software. I'll see what can be done.
EDIT: It is split, but you probably can't edit the second half

Can the second post really not be set to edit? I thought you guys could do a n y t h i n g with a little code.
What have you got in trade, eh? (lol)
Anyway the site is still under construction and we can't go treading on anyones toes. Just shoot us a friendly PM when you need it, or post right here on the thread. 😉

Well, I could direct you to a few spicy sites online. Would that do?
And wot's that bit about stepping on toes? I thought you guys all wore Blundstones.
Oh, oh ! ! ! ! I just got it. I can send you an edit request and you'll do it? If that's what you meant , then, can you replace the link for WinISD in post 2 with this one. The previous one goes nowhere.
Thanks

That's what we do on other forums without much edit permission. The post's caretaker saves-up changes off-line, or in the last post of the thread. When there's enough changes, or urgent changes, click the (!)Report button and ask any available moderator to merge-in the changes.I can send you an edit request and you'll do it?
