I really don't like these tweets...

The QR-1 is actually a pretty good tweeter, if rather "flat" dimensionally owing to the fero-fluid in it (..which can be removed).

Generally a problem to swap drivers, still..

I think this would be your best shot:

SB, SB26ST-C000-5 - Meniscus Audio

-the face-plate is a little larger than the Q1R, so you'll need to fill-in the gap with something like putty or resin (..about 8mm's surrounding the face-plate).

It's not going to be perfect of course, the Impedance profile and freq. response is a bit different.. but it's not that far off (..though again, the ferro-fluid is suppressing the Impedance resonance when compared to anything like this tweeter that does not have ferro-fluid).

(..btw, in that price-range that tweeter is "King" IMO, and yes: it has "airy" treble.)

From the product photo, it looks like there is a 6.8ohm padding resistor on the tweeter. Try replacing that with 4.7R or 3.3R and see if it sounds better. That’s a $1 fix that’s pretty easy to try - and reversible. Most dome tweeters in this category have plenty of sparkle above 16kHz and up to 25kHz probably. Just reduce the attenuation. This is easier than changing tweeters as the XO slopes may change.

But I would imagine the speaker is probably pretty balanced - but since it has a rear facing port, if you put it near a back wall, the bass may sound overwhelming as it was tuned for placement on a stand away from the wall.

I will try this thanks! Parts express sells these I assume?

I will try the resistor mod first, then I may just give this girl a whirl. Thanks!
