😀 its a good day for me, i finaly decided on what to do and have ordered a pair of Omnes Audio L8 Spec's from spectrum audio!

decided going to run them in open baffle and see how they go, then maby add tweeter/active bass if i feel the need to.

bring them on :smash:

(the other "Volt bass +fane FR" thread can be deleted if need be) 😀

woohoo

😀

Could you share with us your rationale for selecting this driver,
compared to say the Visaton B200 which seems to be a bit in fashion and suggested by a few.

I am not questioning your choice, just curious. I have not listened to any of the 8" FR.

SveinB.

well, i plan to use some sort of active bass in the future so i do not need the low fs of the visaton b200, also that the L8 has a high fs of around 95Hz, so hopfully it wont use so much xmax at higher volumes, and that it has not been documented much, so i thought i would give it a try, and it is also half the price of the B200.

😀

How gratifying.

They look ideal candiates to me; hope you enjoy them. In fact, they look very nice indeed from the picture. I haven't seen them before (at least, I don't think I have) so your listening impressions will be interesting. Is that a wooden-phase plug as standard I see in there BTW? If so, nice to see that some manufacturers are taking the time to do it right, especially at this price.

hi, yes it is a wooden phase plug, and the even better deal is that the SPEC version from spectrum audio, is the same price as the normal one.😀

been quotes 2-4 days delivery, dont you just love getting parcels in the post 😉

i know i just need to wait and see, but will my Primare A20 amp (75wpc) be too much for this?

are their any low powered integrated amps with a pre out or pre/power combo's that i can get in the UK that will be more suitable, say £500-600 budget.

people have mentioned 'charlize' amps, is it easy to get them over here? (dont really want to diy for this)

Regards

These did quite well in a test of the German mag Hobby HiFi. They seem to be slightly more linear than the Visaton. And they come at an interesting price. They have a stamped steel chassis while the Visaton has a cast aluminium basket. But this should not make any problems IMO.

well, the drive units came friday, (3 days delivery from germany), put them into my new baffles (pics to come soon).

first opinion, wow, even though they have only had about 5-6 hours break in (wofgang at spectrum audio recomends at least 100) they are very dynamic, voices seem to come out from the speakers, and somehow the background sound (like backing voices and effects) seem to be more distant and real.

the treble was slightly 'nasaly' at first, but either its gone or i am used to it, and there is no need for a supertweeter (although it goes up to around 17Khz).

also the drivers, although they have a measly xmax (1mm) they only have an fs of 95Hz so even at high volumes, the cone is hardly moving, and i get the feeling that i will complain before it starts to, have the feeling that orchestral music will be amazing on this....

i think it could be more refined but i will have to wait until fully broken in, and i cant complain for the price (£150 for drivers, acessories and tools).

overall very happy😀
