Hello Folks

Yesterday I was playing guitar on my 1 year old amp Roland Cube 40 xl and I tried to plug the audio output of my computer to the mp3 input of the amp and it started to smell burned from the inside of my amp until some smoke came out of it. This happened in less than a minute,

I might confused the front mic in of my PC with the line out but it wasn,t wronly connected for more than a minute the I plugged it to the audio out and there was no sound. I tried one more time to plug the headphone output of the desktop speaker and still no sound.

I suspect that my amp get fried when I plugged it the first time to to mic in plug of my PC by mistake. I didn,t stay connected for more than 30 seconds so this happened very fast.

The warranty of my amp expired a couple of months ago so I have no hope on getting it fixed or replaced. If it could get fixed, I have to do it myself, because getting a technician to repair it (if possible) would cost more than the amp.

The amp stopped working, although it turns on, no sound comes out of it. I even tried to tune my guitar and there's no response on the leds when you hit a string.
Guitar cable, and amp power cable are ok. And the guitar is ok too. All have been tested.

Any ideas on what should a check first. I have a multimeter.

Thanks

Open it up and see if you see anything burned up.

I don't know if you have access to a scope and signal generator. Software for a digital scope and signal generator using your computers soundcard can be found online for free. Both these tools make diagnosing the amp much easier.

If you smelled something burning then I presume if you open it up and look around you will find something.
