Hi,

Just purchased an operating and service manual for my HP1740A osciliscope, on receiving said manual I noticed on the first page of the manual a reference to the serial numbers the manual directly refers too. Number prefix 1632A with a mention that the manual also with changes described in section VII applies to instruments with serial number prefixed 1522A through 1616A.

So thought Id better check my osciliscope, my serial number prefix is 1738A, so not not sure if this manual has an use with the osciliscope I have?

Can anyone advise me on this please.

Hi Paul,
For other HP equipment, check here. They also have a ton of application notes and other goodies: Home.

Most of the manual likely applies to your scope. You may find that HP made a few tweaks to your scope that aren't covered in the manual. You could try tossing HP (these days called Keysight) an email and ask which tweaks/updates were made between the serial number prefix covered by the manual you have and the serial number prefix on your scope.

Hi Paul,
Yes, I was hoping you could find additional free information that would answer your question. Also, so read the application notes as HP stuff normally has some features that are not obvious. It helps you get much more out of your instrument. Even a scope.

I restored an HP 1722A, same time period as yours. It is actually one of my better scopes even after all this time. Your screen is larger than mine, so it may be more useful. I'm just letting you know that these are well worth the time and money to keep working on your bench. I keep both an analog and digital scope on my bench as they both have strong points and things they are better suited for.

Good luck on your hunt!

Anatech, thats exactly the road I want to go down. I want to have an analog and digital scope on my bench too. I bought the manual because I want to strip the scope down and clean it, but before I do that I want to read and understand the manual first.

I tried Tomchr advice and contacted keysight this was the reply.

Dear Paul,

Thank you for your enquiry.

I regret that we no longer have details of the specific differences in the serial number ranges as the product has been out of support since 1990.

Apologies for any inconvenience.

Best regards,

Paul.

There does anyone have the manual changed for a hp1741a osciliscope with the prefix serial number 1738a?

Hi Paul,
Have you checked with Aretek for your manual? See : ArtekManuals | Your one stop shop for out of print test equipment manuals
Their prices are good and the manuals are normally very clear. I only buy manuals from this one source, and Dave is one heck of a nice guy. I just bought another 4 manuals from him that I couldn't find anywhere on the net.

He also has a ton of real service manuals he hasn't scanned yet, but if you need it, he would find that manual and scan it as soon as he could. These are all clear PDF files that you get a download link from in 24 hours or less. You get a proper invoice sent to you from Paypal if you use that service (I did). Anyway, if you don't see what you need, just ask for him to get it for you. He's a really honest person.

Edit: I found a manual for the 1740A for $9.50 USD. You could certainly ask him before you buy as he might have more information not scanned yet. The owners / service manuals are pretty complete as documents go.
