How to reduce turntable "needle chatter"?

I recently bought a rega rp1 turntable on sale and it sounds quite good with my headphone. However, when sitting right next to it I can clearly hear "music" coming maybe from the record, stylus or tone arm, which is the so called needle chatter.

Some people say it's normal but I still find it a little annoying. Is there anyway (e.g. modifying tone arm, change cartridge) eliminate or reduce this noise?

put the lid down and don't sit so close to it. If it didn't come with a lid building one is an option. If the turntable is sitting on something resonant like a desk there is a very slim chance that is acting as a soundboard, but a blanket will test that theory.

Generally this noise is swamped by the music from the speakers so is not noticed. And yes, they all do that sir.

With my amp off, on LP's, I can hear nothing until I put my ear 2.5 cm from the cartridge. Then it is pretty faint.
My hearing was tested by my employer in 2008 and I was normal up to about 14 khz where it rolls off.
I'm using a Shure M97 Era IV at 1.5 g. The brush helps limit bouncing if I bang the table or knock the cover down suddenly.

Hi,

yes its normal.
Every vibrating surface generates sound.
So, even the small cantilever must radiate what the vynil groove dictates.
Faintly of course since the surface and the amplitudes are so small, but nevertheless audible.
If You couldn't hear that chatter, You couldn't hear anything at all from the whole setup - probabely due to a broken-off needle.
Different cartridges will emit different amounts of that 'noise' .... but seriously .... are those faint tones really annoying You?
