Horn type sub/ sealed end volume?

I was thinking of making a horn type of sub enclosure. My main concern was the size of the sealed end on a box like I'm pondering. Do I treat it as a bandpass. I assumed that the sealed end would be able to be made smaller due to the loading the sub sees in front of it. Can anyone enlighten me? There is a small image attached so you can get the jist of what is going on in my head. I can make that as tall as I need and change angles and depth to suite my drivers need. The driver I have is listed in my other thread, " a new baby in the house". For a few specs,15 RE 3,2/ QMS 6,37/ Qes ,531/ Qts ,49/ Fs 20hz/ Vas 157/ Freq 16-300hz/
(Vb): 1.50 cu. ft. sealed recommended..

With a sealed box I get a huge peak around 60hz and a sharp taper under 40hz even with a 20hz FS. With a large ported box I got a nice looking deep curve but my excursion went nuts around 30Hz and lower even with a port tune of 16Hz.

The driver is on its way and with only 35$ in it I dont mind wasting a bit of money on MDF.
The only tools I have are a tone generator and a crappy 30$ SPL meter. Are there any links to designs like this so I may go over the principles involved. Any info on calculating the angles and sizes of the loading area, or is it trial and error.
