Hi,
I am about to start a project to build a 4P1L based DHT preamp. A friend/designer is helping me build this. We are trying to use the best parts possible for the highest performance. Can anyone suggest a high quality 4P1L tube socket ? I already wrote to Jakeband and waiting for their reply. Any other suggestions ?

i used china loctal sockets, can't say i have complaints...

I used some of these china sockets. I would describe them as 1-use sockets.

It is nearly impossible to get the loctal guide-pin into them without cracking the glass. In order to do this, it is wise to spread the center clip a bit so the loctal guide pin can go in without immense resistance. ok.. that is my tip for the day.

But... Then there are the pins.. if you try to swap tubes, you will discover that sometimes the pins will no longer make contact! This is sad and nearly impossible to fix too. Hence my conclusion that they are 1-use.

My experience with the current production "cheap" loctal sockets out of china has been not good.

I use nothing but 4P1L tubes in all my amps, so this is pretty interesting for me. I actually use the Chinese white ceramic sockets, and never had issues.

I spread the two ears that clutch the loctal pin with a long nose pliers. Push the pliers in hard from the back of the socket and turn it a few times. Took me a while to learn that trick. It's essential. Must be a long, thin pliers e.g.

Consider using K&K AUDIO/Keven Carter's PCB with sockets soldered in and isolation as part of the package.

I had tried some of the sockets available and find the "feel" of the pins inserted into his board to give the most confidence of a sure fit without the feelng the pins are being stresed.

Might not work for everyone but for those it can one can say this is an elegant solution.
