i have a 1/4wave pipe with little bass<42hz or so tuned>folded..
without using mathcad ,yet....
could i try a higher Qts speaker on it<ive see 2 designs, one very similar to mine that has a Q such as 0.9!
the existing one on the pipe is Qts=0.3 or Less and has VERY LITTLE bass
OVERDAMPED???
or should i just use mathcad files 😛 ,sometime in a few weeks i mite be able to...........,perhaps!
throat 80cm
mouth 600cm <well actualy just before exit>
aperture exit <180cm>
i cant remember the actual width,i can go check it..
i just want some midbass punch, its not for sound quality, its for music 43-55hz loud boom you know,,to keep the SPL up a little 😛
a guy on t-linespeakres mentions comparing it to the sealed box response equivalent, this is strange,i dont see how its relevant, but he thinks it works...i thought surely the port Q will add at the usable freq range mucking his idea up...
maybe not!
Thanks!

Uhm... isn't that box tapered the wrong way?
Try your lower Q driver, see what happens, and let us know... always looking for more information. 😀

Is the Pope Catholic? 😉 What did you expect from such a low Q driver unless it has an Fs <20Hz?

For folks who don't have a good grasp of the physics, MJK's worksheets can save a bunch of time/materials/etc. wasted on experimentation, especially if squeezing max performance out of a driver.

Not sure what either of you mean, but a pipe is just a variant of a vented cab for the most part. A well stuffed pipe is aperiodic, ergo more like sealed.

Which way the taper goes for best performance depends on a number of things, though with a low Q driver it should probably be reversed, but without more info......

il use them, the problem is the pc that can use them,is far away ,moved house.
if i knew them i wouldve told you 🙂What driver, specs
check it out at t-linespeakers.org > 'rules of thumb' etc,it didnt make much sense to me !Not sure what either of you mean, but a pipe is just a variant of a vented cab for the most part. A well stuffed pipe is aperiodic, ergo more like sealed.
i COULD measure Fs and Q easily however VAS would require test box which i dont have! doesnt the added mass method require the coins to be STUCK to the cone?
is there any automated way of measuring T/S specs, and impedence plots?
speakerworkshop seems abit spastic,i couldnt get it to work with my loops and stuff,il have to try it again.
thanks
🙂
II didn't realize you had just stuck some no-name driver in a pipe based on Sd or somesuch, so with no info to work with, I can't help you.
You can buy a woofer tester from Parts Express if you don't want to fool with a fancy measuring system. I played with Speakershop some years ago, but couldn't get repeatable results so gave up on it. I understand Eric Wallin's DIY jig allows for more accuracy, but haven't tried it.
WRT adding mass to calc Vas, you're using such a low input signal that it shouldn't matter. Why not just build a test box?

Those are the classic rules-of-thumb. It's easier to do better than that now...

Dave,
You really should remove some of the old stuff from your web site. We now know it is nonsense, and it cunfuses the newcomer.

I got a whole lot of revisions planned, but stayin' alive just keeps getting in the way...

Nice to see you here, Bob 😉
Do you have some new projects? I always like to see your stuff (I still can't decide to build your peerless pipes, the low efficiency is the only thing I don't like)
Dave, you said some months ago that you'll write an article, about a speaker based on the Tlb (but with some modifications)
What came about this article?

Dave,
Understand. I, however, have only 71 more days and I can sing the Jonny Paycheck song. Don't you hate me?
Bricolo,
I'm working a ML-TL for the Lowther EX2. It promises to be very much better than either the Peerless Pipe or the Foxtex ML-TL. Of course, it cost three times as much!
E-mail me.

il find out a way of getting mathcad+the tline files..
anyway i designed a ported box for the philips 12'' i have-i want to basshorn it if the specs are good.
,,i could make a tiny 0.5cu ft box for testing the 8''
:-D
