Hi guys, what do you think about this high end class D amplifier ? This amplifier design is making a lot of noise in a known Spanish forum, because of its high fidelity, very easy construction and amazing high power (25w to 1250w, even 12000w replacing certain components).

This is a work of José Tagle.

Based on sorenson audio experiment (not UCD)
Components with DPN value should be ignored, they are for experimenting.
All resistors are 1/4w, unless otherwise specified.
Zener diodes are 1/2w
Power supply should be +/-40v (it should never exceed 50v)
To get 200w rms, the transformer should provide 10A
For this project, amazingly, mosfets don't really need heat sink, since they will be always cool, but just for precaution you can add two little 5w heat sinks.
Inductor depends on speaker impedance, for 4 ohms, inductor should be 47uh/10A, and for 8 ohms 100uh/5A. The designer says that there's no need for inductor only if we are feeding a subwoofer.
If you rather want less than 200w rms power, then you can feed the circuit with a lower voltaje, and then you should read the voltaje of TL074, if it's lower than +/-5.1v, half R21 and R22 values.

I have a spare toroid transformer (125VA, 2 x 22), how many RMS would this amplifier provide with this transformer?

If it's class D it has an 80/90% efficiency.
But if it needs a 10A 80V PSU to give 200W Rms power music, it cannot be a class D, even if we will have a stereo pair:
400W Rms only need about 600VA PSU.
So i don't understand how it can be a class D amplifier, even if i would like to understand more about it because it seems to be a very interesting project.

Cheers!

Oi pessoal, sou do Brasil, meu nome é Edson.

Hi IPERV,

True RMS 400W @8R Load you need +/-80V DC ; using MID&HIGH band you need 5A, using LOW(100Hz) & MID need 10A

If this is class D there has not been much EMC engineering done...No filters, single sided design and no effective decoupling on the TL074... Return current paths don't seem to be catered for, the problem with a single sided design, and using PTH components, again not good for class D due to size and thus increased loops.
I would say its a simple basic design, but if it is class D I would be worried about radiated noise myself........
