Hi! Great site, want to see my design?

Hi, I wanted to run this design by a few of you experts 🙂

This is designed to be a full range compact speaker. 11.5 cu in volume. A single aura NSW1-205-8A (shows two because there is space and my prototype will test the 1 vs 2 decision). Let me know what you think 🙂

Here are some pics:

Hi CoCreating,

Neat looking little box... will it be injection molded plastic? I'm guessing it's for a car door, but maybe there's another explanation for the strange shape.

Anyhow, everything looks to be alright, but you might want to re-consider the use of two drivers next to one another. You'll get marginally more bass output, but you'll also get some comb filtering at high frequencies, which might make it prudent to just use a single driver.

Did you model the port and the box with that driver? When the drivers are that small, there's usually little or no difference between the ported and sealed variants of the box. It might be worthwhile to see how they align, since a sealed box would probably be easier to make.

Maybe you could post some more details on what you'll be doing with it, and why it is the shape that it is?

Cheers,
Owen

Yes, it will eventually become a molded part. I have used several calculators and the best seems to be on the www.bcae1.com website. Based on those calcs I am planning on a single speaker. The design can accomodate two and at this point, I am machining the housing and will test it using a pair for comparison. When running a single speaker I will use a filler plate to avoid making a passive radiator of the second speaker.

My prototype uses an adjustable port, so I can close it (sealed box), or have it open and adjust the diameter and length.

The lower end of the spectrum is important down to 200hz. I'd really like to go down to 80 or so. The calculations tell me that ported will work at down to 93hz and sealed is good at about 220....

so we'll see. This site and a lot of other (calculator) sites have helped me quite a bit so I wanted to show some ideas and get some feedback.

Hi CoC - interesting design. I can hear the Canuck's mental gears turning over thinking - Ehhhh - dhammm thing might make for a fine stick with storage for spare pucks!!😱

Now you will need a helmet with beer storage too...... 🙄
