Found this site while trying to fix my gunked up Yamaha K-420. The counter belt literally turned unto liquid tar. Never seen anything like it. lol

Yes, belts tend to do that. Cleaning with IPA is mandatory before mounting shiny new belts.

That can get really ugly. Was given an AR where both the belt and the Mat did this age related transformation.,
Clean the mess and replace the belt
