I just joined your site, & have been reading up on a certain ethnic Knight integrated tube amp. I have a parts list ready, & nothing else really going on, so I thought I'd say hi & introduce myself. 🙂 I'm not the smartest kid in class, but I'm learning a little at a time, and if nothing else, I'm pretty friendly. If I get on anyone's nerves, just ignore me, I'm pretty harmless, just have a weird sense of humor sometimes. 😀
Howdy, planet10! This one's a KN924, which is PP 6BQ5. It seems there were a few variations on the circuit, among different models, so I'm just going to replace the components with the same values for now. What makes them tricky is, the schematics seem to be kinda hard to find, plus since many were kits assembled by the buyer, you never really "know" if they used the right values. 😕 😉 All my electrolytics are 10 uF for instance, in the multi-section cans, and I just don't know if that was intentional, or done for cost concerns. I hooked it up for awhile yesterday, & it actually sounds pretty good, so at least I know it works, before I get my paws inside. 😀
Mine is a PP ECL86, mine is point-to-Point, is yors too? My understanding is that most of the Knight stuff was bought from an OEM... probably bought in batches, so there would be differences batch-to-batch (batches could come from different OEMs too).
Before you go at it, you should sketch out the circuit. It will likely be a variation of one of a few schemes. A good place to start http://www.diyaudio.com/forums/tubes-valves/120307-very-low-output-knight-kn928-amp-6.html
Attached is a map i grabbed from one of the links.
