Morning all, I wrote an intro last night but then I autologged out or something and boom, post gone, so here is a condensed version 🙂
I've always had an interest in how things work, something reflected in my choice of degree (mechanical engineer), and recently I've gotten into HiFi and PA audio systems as a result of taking up DJing.
In short I signed up here because I have the following immediate objectives:

In short I signed up here because I have the following immediate objectives:
- Repair my Mordaunt Short MS-20s (poly switch fuses are ruined, they sound terrible)
- Build a pair of xovers for some dirt cheap 10" car SWs that I bought, they sound incredible (by which I mean one of them can shake the house at 37hz quite happily) but I'd rather not be running full range sound through them, especially when I can cross the top end over to some compression drivers for parties (thus saving me blowing the protect switches on the MS-20s)
- Take the circuit boards and transformers that I got for christmas and turn them into an amplifier and preamp. the designs im using are ESP P3A and P97 respectively. I intend (having access to a full machine shop, gotta love uni) to design my own chassis for them to 17" rack standard, I'll probably laser cut some bits as well simply because I can.
Cheers,
Dave
Welcome to the forum! You will find no shortage of advice, the challenge will be sorting through it...
Hello Dave and welcome to diyAudio. Feel free to ask your questions in the forums as this, being the Intro area, doesn't get looked at by everyone. Good luck.
Hello Dave - and Welcome to diyAudio!!! 😀😀😀
Here is a tip about posting I learned the hard way - when banging out a long post I will do it in a word processor 1st and then cut and paste to the forum. The WP won't time out - and in my case the spel checkre comes in andy. 🙄
BTW - luv to see you Brit's here - I lived in Ipswich as a lad and still can't find any decent fish and chips here in the Colonies.
