I have a Rotel RX 802 which was given to us by a relative along with some Leak Speakers and a dual 504 turntable. All which were used together but have been in storage for at least 5 years.
We've spent weeks trying to get it all working; sometimes it works fine (and sounds amazing!) and other times it doesnt, so I'm thinking its a connection issue somewhere. We've replaced the speaker wires and the 2pin and 5pin connectors.
The issues that we have are (sometimes individually and sometimes all at the same time),
1.) A buzzing on 1 or both speakers
2.) 1 or both speakers not working
3.) 1 speaker louder than the other
4.) Speakers working but playing very quietly
We love the equipment and really want to get it working rather than buying new!

Welcome to the forum!
I'm afraid intermittent faults like yours are hard to troubleshoot from a distance. The symptoms could be down to anything from dirty switches/relays to failing capacitors.
Have you tried a different pair of speakers to eliminate the Leaks from suspicion?
I've attached a link to the User Manual in case you do not have the original paper copy.

Thanks for the reply its much appreciated! Yes, we tried different speakers and the same issues occur. Its frustating because at times it works perfectly! Although rarely for a long period.Welcome to the forum!

I can't help you any further, other than to say my first instinct would be to get inside the receiver and squirt electrical contact cleaner spray into all the switches and rotary controls.
If you were to post photos of the interior of the receiver, they might prompt the amplifier experts to make suggestions about deteriorating components such as capacitors.

Thanks again, i did try contact spray but wasnt sure how much to use.I can't help you any further, other than to say my first instinct would be to get inside the receiver and squirt electrical contact cleaner spray into all the switches and rotary controls.

I've uploaded some photos of the inside so really hoping someone can advise!
I see some dimmer and muting controls on front panel. I they are faulty you may have those problems.
But Iam only guessing, you should leave the repairs to expert.

Thanks so much! Thats useful to have, I've saved the pdf. I'm hoping someone can look at the pictures of the inside and see an obvious issue but realise it might not be that simple. Here's the service manual for this, might be helpful.
Ok thank you, hoping someone can see an obvious issue. I'm not sure who I'd take this sort of thing to now since its quite an old bit of kit..I see some dimmer and muting controls on front panel. I they are faulty you may have those problems.

Put a good squirt into any gaps in the rear housings of the controls/switches then work the controls/switches many times to wipe any contamination off their internal contacts. Sometimes, you can strike it lucky!

There's no obvious physical sign of deterioration of capacitors etc.
I'm afraid it's a job for someone with the appropriate test equipment.
Professional repair (even if you could locate a suitable service centre) could cost nearly as much as a budget replacement amplifier/receiver.
do not forget to clean all the fuses and fuseholders............
there is a relais on the psu-board, probably the contacts are corroded.

Ok thanks a lot, i guess if we cannot sort it ourselves it may be best to buy a replacement in that caseThere's no obvious physical sign of deterioration of capacitors etc.

Thanks for the advice, much appreciated. This is relatively new to me.do not forget to clean all the fuses and fuseholders............
