Hi everybody
Need expert advice with this beautifull machine
I do have the service manual and was able to find the fault but need some advice on the repair.
To the fault; there is no sound at the output everything works just fine just no sound, traced the fault to pin 18 on the MAB8410 to resistor R548 (3.3K) to transistor Q535 that controls the "preem" relays.
All the voltages check fine, checked the resistors/transistor and are fine but replaced it anyway.
Kill relay is operating has it should.
Since the manual doesn't tell much my question is if there is something before the MAB8410 I should look for.

The pre-emphasis relay will not mute the sound, just alter the frequency response. Is the audio present before the kill relay, at R600?
Hi Rayna
Yes I did realized that after I posted
I was looking at the service manual but for some reason the decoder board is different from the one on the player.
The board on the player has a piggy board with a cpu and menory chips and there is nothing on the manual about them (board has a different part number).
There is no sound in both channels
Will check for sound on the R600 and R579 and report back

Couldn't get to my scope (long story)
But with my voltmeter I have 3.7V/3.8V on pin 7 of the opamp before the cap C573/C608 I know the voltmeter is not the ideal tool but was the only thing I could grab today
Going to bed cooking another bach of flu

I would check the eye pattern first, then any muting stage and then work backwards from the output stage, through the current mirrors etc ...
Hi JonSnell
The cd player is reading Cds and I can skip tracks forwad and back with no problem.
I did repaired a few cd players before and never seen one like this (fault) not even in many cd104s that I fixed.
At the moment not feeling well got flu again so going to give it a rest for now

Hi everybody
Felling better now ( thanks to my immunosuppressive medication this is the 3rd time since Christmas that flu it me ).
Question about the CD73: How many versions of it do exist ?
I know of 2 different decoder boards one with the SAA7000/10/20/30 and the one I have with only the SAA7030 a piggy board with Sony chips and loads of 74 series TTL chips.
Witch one is the early version ?
Does someone has the service manual for the one with the Sony chips that can send it to me ?

There must be someone with the service manual for the version with the Sony chips and the piggy board
Or is there someone in the southwest that can fix it for me ?
Ric
PS: here are pictures of the 2 different versions of the decoder board
