Hi guys.
I need a bit of help with choosing a suitable monitor or panel to go with this projector I'm waiting on getting delivered.
I will be using it with my PC to play games etc, so I would prefer something with 1024x768 resolution and a decent response time.
I'll need to wait till I get it before I measure it to see what size of panel I can use, but if anyone has one of these can you recomend something please?
Thanks, Pete.

THe Sharp qa-2500 is a very good projection panel. You can usually find one on ebay. It would go great with that OHP.
yeah but they are getting at least 355 dollars on ebay. and that's without the power cable sometimes.
what's wrong with using a high qulaity 15 inch lcd panel from a monitor that dissasembles well.
even when you buy a 100 dollar video to vga transcoder you're still saving at about a hundred bucks.
an the 15 inch lcd panel will look a little better since it's bigger.
i have to admit, do your homework first and get one that dissasembles well. i destroyed 2, and the third one had the ffc cable problem. but i found this site a few days ago and will buy one that you guys recommend.

Any of you guys able to recomend a monitor to strip down to use? Just keeping my options open. Thanks for the replies lads.
there is a thread just on people posting what lcd's they dissasembled. (not the good/bad one thread) but there is a better one on which ones are good for dissasembling...
can someone link it? i can't find it.
if not, i'll post the ones i copied down on a notepad for you when i get done with my homework..
don't do what i do, i wasted 300 dollars on the first two since i ripped the ffc cables and etc...
some are really easy to take apart, others are impossible to use.
samsung synmasters are pretty good but they use a shi* load of metallic tape for the circuit boards and if you're not careful you can tear a circuit along with it like i did.
one lcd monitor opens like a book after you unscrew it and is very idea.

guys you're killing me. This thread in question was up a couple of DAYS ago on the main page... Good panel bad panel or something like that is the name of the thread.
id go with a sharp qa 1800 .. i have one i use it with xbox and computer and movies ... no complaints ... i will get a monitor sooner or later tho... just cuz i wanna build a box
sometimes there isn't a lot of action around here. The real flurry of activity on this board happened years ago. I just got into this a few months back - reading the first thread was really eye opening. Until some new technology comes out or someone discovers something extrodinary this place'll stay slow.
As for monitors, 15 inch monitors are becoming more rare by the day. Usually they're bundled with low end computers involving $$ in rebates. At least that's what I see in the ads, since everyone else has moved on to 17"+ panels making this hobby a bit more difficult. Even ebay is inconsistent. That's where I would take my chances, rather than paying $150 for a new monitor, potentially 3 could be had at that price. I was lucky, my emachine e15ts didn't need an ffc extension, but I can tell that the color on the previous panel I had was much richer - probably due to the contrast difference.

v1d9Guy.
why would you have to use lcd panel from a monitor to build a box projector?
you could use an ohp lcd for inside a box.... they're more durable so to me it's easier.

im not gunna take the time to build a box to fit a panel when i will upgrade to a lcd monitor soon because of the better specs i think the only reason to use a ohp panel is for useing a game console with it if it wasnt for that i wouldnt have even bought one ... i will not strip down my panel to use in a box ... that dont make sense to me id rather sell it and buy a monitor. just seems like a waste of time to build around outdated extremely outdated ohp panel.
but thats just my opinion
but thats just my opinion
yeah, i agree that it's better to get higher resolution lcd for the project.
but i'm so confused about which one's are the most DIY friendly.
have you thought about which one you want to use? so many have serious ffc cable problems. and yes i know you can buy an extension but i remember ruining a cable just trying to remove it.
it's a very delicate process of installing an lcd panel while NOT BENDING the ffc's and circuits too much.
I think i'm gonna get a spectra PRO and build a box for that......... maybe i'll upgrade later when someone starts selling BARE LCD panels with no backlight and a DURABLE FFC cable extension for a good price.
or when we can all agree on a DIY friendly monitor.. (alot of the DIY panels listed here are often rebuked by someone else...)
and alot of info is getting missed. LIke for the samnsung syncmasters.... Yes they are good when it comes to avoiding major FFC problems, but not a single person has mentioned the very difficult heavy-duty foil paper with **** loads of glue that they use. and that when you tear it off you can easily tear off the flappy circuits on the side with it like I did.
and what's up with how expensive of the liliputs that are made in china are? 260 dollars for a 7 inch lcd?
this technology is pretty old now so why are we getting ripped off?
So i think it's very difficult and risky to use a bare lcd panel from a monitor. the exposed circuits and driver boards with all that heat can't be good. I think that in the long run it is more costly because they probably won't have a good shelf life in our DIY project.. they have grounding problems, etc.
i don't know, maybe i'm too negative, but I just wish they made DURABLE ffc cables and a more rock-solid way that they plug into the driver boards. and NO ANLGE PROBLEMS, or GROUNDING problems etc.

yea i agree on the lillputs there stupid but there also the best small size high res lcd u can find ..... as far as i know as for me im useing a sharp qa-1800 got it on ebay for 120 brand new ... still in box and plastic. and im useing a ohp with a 600 watt halogen bulb witch is supposed to be 17000lumens... but i dunno if i believe that. it also gets very very hott.
