I live in trinidad thats in th ecarribbean.....i dont think we carry sonotubes over here.Butwe have a paper manufacturing company over here....and the tubes they wrap the paper around are thick cardboard ubes..........i was wondering if its safe to use that instead of the sonotubes u all are talking abou.........feedback would be appreciated.......if anyone lives in trinidad would u please tell me where o get sonotubes..bye

i really dont have a clue......but is about 1 inch thick or so.......what i really want to know is ....can the tubes still work as a sonotube??
1" thick would definitely thick enough. Now if you can estimate the tubes diameter we can get an idea if they can work. Try to estimate the length as well if you can. If they get to be 3 or 4 feet in diameter, they might be too big for a sono tube.Andre Baptiste said:i really dont have a clue......but is about 1 inch thick or so.......what i really want to know is ....can the tubes still work as a sonotube??
nahhhhhh its not that thick..........its within the vicinity that i see the sonotubes on tha net.......about the same diameter...yhx
Even 1/2" thich would work ok. If you say they look about the same diameter as the ones you see on the net, they will probably work. If one tube is not long enough, you can use two or more end to end. I think you should grab a few of them. Don't forget to ask first orAndre Baptiste said:nahhhhhh its not that thick..........its within the vicinity that i see the sonotubes on tha net.......about the same diameter...yhx

"Sonotube" is a registered brand name of the Sonoco company. There are other manufacturers of the same product going by different names. It is simply a large tube made by layering paper in a spiral and lining the inside with wax. It looks like a big cardboard tube with walls about 1/4" to 3/8" thick. You probably have some there, it just has a different brand name.
If it doesn't have resonace problems, it's not an audio device
ALL speakers have "resonance probs".
You will probably have "standing wave" interal resonances that you could address with various sorts of stuffing materials.
