Help selecting a center channel kit

Sorry for the length of this post but I thought it best to get all the info out at once. I am looking for a center channel kit for which I will build the box and assemble the X-overs. My front speakers are 19 yo Canton Quinto 510s (3-way bookshelf). Driven by a Denon AVR-3801. Sub is a Fosgate Audionics FA12.0. The Cantons are rated at 4-8-Ohm, 36 - 30KHz, resonance @75Hz, Crossed at 800 / 5000 Hz, Slope 14/13 14/10 dB/Octive, sensitivity 80dB 3m 1.7W. The drivers are 200mm paper, 28mm and 20mm soft dome tweeters. Suggested power is 20-60 Watt. This should be fairly accurate however my manual is is German.

Madinsound suggested either the Vifa AV or Audax

Zalytra suggested either the Audax or Focal based "super center"

I will also be building an entertainment center and am concerned about the rear porting in these designs since the entertainment center will have a closed rear (basically the center channed will be a box within a box). Should be ok to use front ports if I can fit them in? OR I could modify the entertainment center to vent the center channel compattment.

I would like to keep the kit under $500US. I know the Audax Kits run around $200US while the Focal is $500US. Would it sound 2 1/2 times better?

Thanks in advance for your suggestions.

Hi Gary

I have no experience with those other kits, but the Audax is well worth the price.

Do a search for Home Theatre/Theater speakers to find other opinions.

You will need to move the ports to the front of the speakers, otherwise you will be getting coupled cavity or bandpass style effects, and this will alter the speakers response.

Good luck
